How is a rally determined in volleyball?

In volleyball, a rally is determined by scoring points in succession, which is fundamentally how the game operates. Each time the server successfully gets the ball over the net and the opposing team fails to return it or plays it improperly, a point is awarded to the team that served. The scoring system, known as rally scoring, allows either team to score points on any serve, irrespective of who served. This means that a rally continues until the ball is out of play and a point is scored, either because the ball hits the ground on the opponent's side, goes out of bounds, or is mishandled by the receiving team. Essentially, the continuous series of play that leads to the accumulation of points forms the basis of a rally in volleyball.
